(More customer reviews)I make a lot of bread at home and have a very hard time cutting a straight line, so I wanted a slicer that would help with that. This slicer has a wooden guide on it, however if you are not using the maximum size (which is about twice what I want a sandwich bread to be) you are still kind of on your own to keep the knife straight. I was hopeful to find a slicer with an adjustable guide, but I didn't want to spend a fortune. This is a very good quality knife, excellent sharpness and beautiful finish. Even though it does not have a small enough guide for me, it is much easier to cut a little straighter with a good sharp knife. The cutting goes quick and I don't have time to mess it up too badly. I am not knocking a star off for my own mistake of not finding out the dimensions of the guard before buying, but rather because I cannot personally imagine that widest slice being practical for anything.
