(More customer reviews)I just invested in a set of Wusthof Classic Ikon knives, so I decided I should purchase and excellent honing and sharpening system along with it. After much consideration, I decided this Furi set was the best option on the board.
The system just arrived yesterday. Naturally, my first thought was: Where can I find a really dull metal blade that I can try this system on? Immediately the thought came to mind: At work! We have a small set of ultra-cheap Ginsus here, featuring a single Ginsu Bakelite Santoku. It's been here for at least four and maybe five years. No one has sharpened or honed it even once during that time. The Santoku was as dull as a butter knife, and I am not exaggerating one bit. I could not shave hair off my arm, I could not feel an edge, and I could not cut my arm either. The edge was flat.
I gave this Ginsu 13 licks with each of the 3 stages, no more and no less. I brought a big carrot with me to work today to test it. Guess what? The carrot is sitting here in thin slices next to me as I write this. I would say a few of these wafer thin slices are just a few mm thick. Whilst that Ginsu is no match for my Shun Gokujo, it's pretty damn sharp, and fully functional.
If that's what this system can do with a piece of stamped stainless steel with no edge, I am looking forward to seeing what it will do with my Wusthof blades.
