The large label covered one side, it also covered a fairly deep scratch in the surface. There was also another deep scratch on the reverse side. The SS band is a loose fit around the circumference. This board was purchased as a replacement for an 18" dia.x 4" thick Boos block. The Boos block separated along a glue line and sprang apart, unevenly, making it unusable. I concluded the SS band would prevent this happening on the replacement. I don't think it is tight enough to do that.
I decided to remove the two large scratches by sanding them. After sanding out the scratches it was apparent the coating was also removed, obviously. So, I sanded the whole surface, both sides, applied a mineral oil and polished it up. As the coating is not specified and appears to be a solid surface coating removing it probably a wise move.
The board is flat, no wobbles, looks good and is just the right size for a veggie fest of chopping. The handles make moving it around very easy.
I would recommend it to anyone who doesn't recoil in horror at having to do a little improvement work.
The BOOS board was way in excess of a hundred dollars. This board is fairly priced and of decent quality.
